Antaka, the Asura Frightening unto God of Death Whose name he bore Armed with boons divine Harassed worlds all --Thus the Celestial Beings moaned to the Lord; And the Lord, Lifting high His trident sharp Pierced him straight to certain death.
அக இருளாகிய ஆணவமலத்தை ஒத்து, `அந்தகன்` எனப் பெயர் பெற்ற அசுரன் ஒருவன் தான் பெற்ற வரத்தினால் உலகத்து உயிர்களை எல்லாம் துன்புறுத்த, அது பற்றி வருந்தி முறையிட்ட தேவர்கள் பொருட்டுச் சிவபெருமான் சூலத்தின் நுனியில் அவனை ஏற்றித் துன்புறுத்தி அழித்தார்.
